BGP Litigation assists an ex-partner of the Baker McKenzie Moscow Office in winning a dispute with the employer

BGP Litigation lawyers have acted for a former partner of the Baker McKenzie Moscow Office in a multi-million labour dispute.

Igor Makarov, a former partner of the Baker McKenzie law firm’s Moscow Office, who was dismissed when the firm left the Russian market, managed to have the court recognise his dismissal as unlawful, recover compensation for compelled idle time, and payment for unused vacation days during his years of work, and recognise double duty for heading up the corporate and labour practices in parallel.

The court partly granted Igor Makarov’s claim, awarding him a sum of about half a million dollars, which is unprecedentedly high for a labour dispute.

Igor Makarov’s interests were defended by Labour Law Practice Partner Anna Ivanova, with Associate Sophia Luneva’s assistance on the project.

“The labour legislation provides employees with good protection in relation to salaries. The limitation period for recovering compensation for unused vacation is one year, so we will see several more claims from former partners of international law firms”, notes Anna Ivanova.
